third, half and the two-mile, also the one-mile circuit championship events. The five-mile was not contested.

"Major Taylor's supremacy during the season has been unquestioned. His victories being easily accomplished in most cases. It was Owen Kimble, the Kentuckian, who gave the "Major" the bitterest battles of any of the contestants, and he managed to beat Major out occasionally. Whenever they came together in a final it was always sure to be a battle royal. On Monday at Hartford Major Taylor rode a special match against Willie Fenn, the amateur champion, for the National Championship title and defeated the amateur in straight heats. It was a great race.
