He represented North Northamptonshire in Parliament for twenty- eight years before his accession, was Groom-in- Waiting to the Queen in 1886, Vice-Chamberlain to the Queen in 1891 2, and was a member of the Privy Council. Like his father he took great interest in local affairs, and was a familiar figure on political platforms in Lincolnshire. He married Isabella, daughter and heir of Sir Thomas Whichcote, Bart., and the present Marquess (born in 1876) was their only child. In 1901 Lord Exeter married the Hon. Myra Rowena Sibell Orde- Powlett, daughter of Lord Bolton, and has two sons and one daughter.
