Bible speaks of the guardian angels of the Persians and Macedonians. [1] The angel of the waters mentioned here must be the guardian of those nations hostile to the Church. He is forced to acknowledge the justice of God's judgment against them. It is just retribution for the blood of martyrs which they have shed. What they meted out to others is now measured unto themselves. [2]
7. A voice from the altar proclaims the justice of God's dealings with those wicked nations: "Just and true are Thy judgments, Lord God Almighty." This is prob-ably the voice of the martyrs approving the manifestations of justice for which they had prayed. [3]
CHAPTER XVI
8. And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun, and it was given unto him to afflict men with heat and fire:
9. And men were scorched with great heat, and they blasphemed the name of God, who hath power over these plagues, neither did they penance to give him glory.
10. And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom became dark, and they gnawed their tongues for pain.
11. And they blasphemed the God of heaven, be cause of their pains and wounds, and did not penance for their works.
