She pictured the proud triumph
    Beneath the Roman sky,
And fiercely flamed her passion,
    And sternly flashed her eye;

In her ears the chariots rumbled,
    In her ears the shoutings rang,
Then she bared her snowy bosom
    To the serpent's poisoned fang.
