HUDGILL-BURN. Fathoms. Feet. 3 five miles, is terminated by a spacious amphitheatre of bleak and lofty hills, which, together with the mountainous ridges on each side of the vale of Nent, have from time immemorial been celebrated for the abundance and value of their mineral deposits. Rampgill Mine, in the last century, and Hudgill-burn, in the present, have been particularly distinguished by the richness of their mineral veins. The strata of the Vale of Nent consist entirely of the Mountain Lime- stone formation, and to the favourable position of the principal stratum of Limestone much of its subterranean wealth may be attributed.
