now to be done but finishing, which I completed with between 3 and 4 pints of water (some salt also was used), in the course of an hour and quarter. The pan was now taken off the fire, and allowed to cool for 24 hours, when I found, upon weighing, I had 10½ libs, of good white soap. Upon looking over my jottings, taken during the operation, I found that there had been used about 23 pints of leys, and about 3 libs. of salt.
