in his favourite literary pursuits and enjoying the music discoursed by his own company of trained musicians, he spent his last years, failing health preventing him from taking his former active part in public affairs, yet never ceasing to prevent him until the last from taking a keen interest in all the great public questions of the day. He died on the 10th of January, 1908, and with him passed away one of the few remaining figures of the old school and one of the finest characters in Bengal in the nineteenth century.
