CRUTCH, THE JUDGE.

PATTER, patter, on the floor,
Such a floor for hobbling,
In and out the open door,
Where his sire sits cobbling :

Mat -the merry, Mat the wise,
So the children call him ;
Mat, with solemn, sightless eyes-
Nought but good befal him !

Mat the cripple, poor and young,
Lord of all his alley ;
Ruling by his gentle tongue,
Bright with many a sally.

Mat and I fell out one day
On a point of duty ;
I maintaining life was gay,
And that truth was beauty,
