JERUSALEM.

O CITY of delight!
If thou hadst known, even thou, in that day,
Thou hadst not turned away,
In blind and angry spite,
When He whose love did shadow thee,
Like shadow of the cedar tree,
Watched by thee day and night.
O city desolate !

If thou hadst known, in that time of pride,
The shame thou couldst not hide,
That festered in thy gate,
When He, the King unrecognized,
Did come unknown, and pass unprized,
And pitifully wait.
