expressly limits the duration or waiting by vehicles within a particular period for the purpose or their being loaded or unloaded) which applies otherwise than is specified in sub-paragraphs (1) and (2) of this paragraph

28. A road marking shown in diagrams 1016.1, 1017 or 1018 shall not be used unless used in conjunction with at least one plate of the type shown in diagrams 637, 639, 640, 541 or 642.1 used as directed in paragraph 12 of these Directions) which plate shall be placed on the same side of the road as that on which is placed that marking, except that this paragraph shall not apply where any such marking is placed within a controlled parking zone.

In this and the next succeeding paragraph the expression "controlled parking zone" means an area in which all roads have been marked, except where parking places have been designated, with one or more traffic road markings shown in diagrams 1016.1 to 1021, the entrances for vehicular traffic into the area being indicated by a sign shown in diagram 806 or 806.1.

29. A road marking shown in diagrams 1019, 1020 or 1021 shall not be used unless used in conjunction with at least one plate or the type shown in diagrams 638, 640 or 642.1 which plate shall be placed on the same side or the road as that on which is placed that marking and such a marking shall be placed on the footway as near as practicable to the edge of the carriageway or, if there is no footway on the carriageway as near as is practicable to its edge, except that nothing in this paragraph shall require the provision or a plate in conjunction with any such marking if the marking is placed within a controlled parking zone.

30.(1) The road markings shown in diagram 1023 shall not he placed on a road unless so placed for use in conjunction with the road marking shown in diagram 1003.

(2) The road markings shown in diagrams 1025.1 and 1025.3 shall not be placed on a road unless so placed for use in conjunction with at least one sign or the type shown in diagram 653 which shall have been erected on or near the same side or the road as that on which the marking is placed.

(3) The road marking shown in diagram 1042: shall not be placed on a road unless so placed for use in conjunction with the marking shown in diagram 1049 and either the traffic sign shown in diagram 553 or that shown in diagram 654, and the marking shown in diagram 1049 shall not be placed on a road unless so placed for use in conjunction with the marking shown in diagram 1048 and either the sign shown in diagram 553 or that shown in diagram 654.

31. Studs incorporating reflectors may be placed on a road only if such studs are of a type which has first been approved in writing by or on behalf of the Secretary of State.

32. No sign, used in accordance with the provisions of Regulation 27 or the Regulations may be retained at any place on or near a principal road after the expiration of all months from the date on which the sign was erected at that place, or such longer time as may be approved in writing by or on behalf of the secretary of state, or be retained in any case after the termination or the need for such a sign.
