3.33 Where distances are shown on successive lines they are arranged to form columns, as shown in figure 3-22. The tens and units columns are aligned horizontally so that no tiles on the same line overlap. Where there are three numerals (e.g. 101) the columns shall be equally spaced as far as possible. Where a distance is less than 1 mile and the distance immediately below does not include a fraction, special rules are used, as shown in figure 3-23.
