PREFACE
THIS part of the Catalog of Copyright Entries contains an alphabetical list under title of all works (with the exception of musical compositions, which are to be found in Part 14B) in which renewal copyright was registered in the Copyright Office during the period January 1, 1950, through June 30, 1950. Motion picture renewals are also listed in a separate section of Parts 12 and 13. The list includes brief entries in the form of cross references from the names of authors, editors, compilers, illustrators (if copyright claim is made on illustrations), and copyright claimants (if the renewal is claimed by the proprietor of copyright in a work made for hire).
Bibliographic Data.—Each main entry includes, as applicable 1) title; 2) the names of the authors, illustrators, editors, etc.; 3) the number of volumes, or, for motion pictures, the number of parts or reels; and, 4) series. For periodicals each title is followed by a statement of the volumes, the issue numbers and dates of issue. Whenever the renewed work is an article from a collection or a periodical, the title of the collection or periodical is given, and the issue date of the number of the periodical in which the work appeared is included.
Each cross-reference consists of the name of the author, editor, or other person connected with the work, the title under which the complete entry will be found, and the renewal registration number.
Copyright Data.—The portion of the entry giving the facts of copyright registration begins with the copyright symbol ©. This is followed, as applicable, by 1) a brief statement of the new matter on which copyright was claimed when the renewal application indicates that such a statement was made in the original copyright application; 2) the date of original copyright; 3) the original registration number; 4) the renewal registration number; 5) the date of receipt of renewal application; 6) the name of the renewal claimant; and 7) an abbreviation in parentheses representing the applicant's statement of the basis of his renewal claim; e. g., John Doe (NK) indicates that renewal of copyright is claimed by John Doe as next of kin of the deceased author.
The Catalog of Copyright Entries records the claimant in whose name a work, or a renewal of copyright, is first registered and contains no record of subsequent changes of ownership. For information relating to transfer of rights, search in the assignment records of the Copyright Office will be undertaken upon request to the Register of Copyrights and upon payment of the statutory search fee.
Authority.—The Catalog of Copyright Entries is published by authority of sections 210 and 211 of Title 17 of the United States Code. Section 210 provides that the Catalog "shall be admitted in any court as prima facie evidence of the facts stated therein as regards any copyright registration."
Organization of the Catalog.—This issue of the Catalog is part of Volume 4 of the Third Series. The parts are numbered according to the alphabetical sequence of classes as listed in section 5 of Title 17 of the United States Code. Letters are added to the part numbers to indicate subdivisions.
The classes of material principally contained in each part are listed, together with their respective symbols, under the title of the part in the Table of Organization which faces the title page in this issue. In each case, the first letter of the symbol is that of the class under which registration is made; the second, if any, is a designation added by the Copyright Office for purposes of statistical analysis of registrations. The symbol R does not represent a class designated by the Copyright Act, but has been adopted by the Copyright Office to distinguish renewal copyright registrations. Some parts
