(2) EFFECTIVE DATE.—The smiendment made by paragraph (1) shall apply with respect to misinformation furnished after December 1982 and to benefits for months after December 1982. V|. (b) SUPPLEMENTAL SECURITY INCOME. — (1) IN GENERAL.—Section 1631(e) of such Act (42 U.S.C. 1383(e)) is amended by adding at the end the following new paragraph: "(5) In any case in which it is determined to the satisfaction of the Secretary that an individual failed as of any date to apply for benefits under this title by reason of misinformation provided to such individual by any officer or employee of the Social Security Administration relating to such individual's eligibility for benefite under this title, such individual shall be deemed to have applied for such benefits on the later of— "(A) the date on which such misinformation was provided to such individual, or "(B) the date on which such individual met all requirements «  for entitlement to such benefits (other than application there- for). ". 42 USC 1383 (2) EFFECTIVE DATE.— The amendment made by paragraph (1) '*<**®- shall apply with respect to misinformation furnished on or after the date of the enactment of this Act and to benefits for months after the month in which this Act is enacted. SEC. 10303. SAME-DAY PERSONAL INTERVIEWS AT FIELD OFFICES OF THE SOCIAL SECURITY ADMINISTRATION IN CERTAIN CASES WHERE TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE. (a) OLD-AGE, SURVIVORS, AND DISABILITY INSURANCE.— Section 205 of the Social Security Act (42 U.S.C. 405) is amended by adding at the end the following new subsection: "Same-Day Personal Interviews at Field Offices In Cases Where Time Is of The Essence .,,

"(t) In any case in which an individual visits a field office of the Social Security Administration and represents during the visit to an officer or employee of the Social Security Administration in the office that the individual's visit is occasioned by— "(1) the receipt of a notice from the Social Security Adminis- tration indicating a time limit for response by the individual, or "(2) the theft, loss, or nonreceipt of a benefit payment under this title, the Secretary shall ensure that the individual is granted a face-to- face interview at the office with an officer or employee of the Social Security Administration before the close of business on the day of the visit.". (b) SUPPLEMENTAL SECURFTY INCOME.— Section 1631(e) of such Act (42 U.S.C. 1383(e)) is amended by adding after the paragraph added by section 10302(b)(l) of this Act the following new paragraph: "(6) In any case in which an individual visits a field office of the Social Security Administration and represents during the visit to an officer or employee of the Social Security Administration in the office that the individual's visit is occasioned by—
