112 STAT. 2038 PUBLIC LAW 105-261—OCT. 17, 1998 (2) by inserting after subsection (d) the following new subsection: "(e) SPECIAL RULE FOR CERTAIN ENLISTED RESERVE MEM- BERS,—Unless entitled to basic pay under section 204 of this title, an enlisted member of a reserve component may receive, at the discretion of the Secretary concerned, rations in kind, or a part thereof, when the member's instruction or duty periods, as described in section 206(a) of this title, total at least 8 hours in a calendar day. The Secretary concerned may provide an enlisted member who could be provided rations in kind under the preceding sentence with a commutation when rations in kind are not available.". (b) APPLICATION DURING TRANSITIONAL PERIOD. —Section 602(d)(1) of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 1998 (Public Law 105-85; 37 U.S.C. 402 note) is amended by adding at the end the following new subparagraph: " (D) SPECIAL RULE FOR CERTAIN ENLISTED RESERVE MEMBERS. —Unless entitled to basic pay under section 204 of title 37, United States Code, an enlisted member of a reserve component (as defined in section 101(24) of such title) may receive, at the discretion of the Secretary concerned (as defined in section 101(5) of such title), rations in kind, or a part thereof, when the member's instruction or duty periods (as described in section 206(a) of such title) total at least 8 hours in a calendar day. The Secretary concerned may provide an enlisted member who could be provided rations in kind under the preceding sentence with a commutation when rations in kind are not available.". Subtitle B—Bonuses and Special and Incentive Pays SEC. 611. THREE-MONTH EXTENSION OF CERTAIN BONUSES AND SPE- CIAL PAY AUTHORITIES FOR RESERVE FORCES. (a) SPECIAL PAY FOR HEALTH PROFESSIONALS IN CRITICALLY SHORT WARTIME SPECIALTIES.— Section 302g(f) of title 37, United States Code, is amended by striking out "September 30, 1999" and inserting in lieu thereof "December 31, 1999". (b) SELECTED RESERVE RENLISTMENT BONUS. —Section 308b(f) of title 37, United States Code, is amended by striking out "September 30, 1999" and inserting in lieu thereof "December 31, 1999". (c) SELECTED RESERVE ENLISTMENT BONUS.— Section 308c(e) of title 37, United States Code, is amended by striking out "September 30, 1999" and inserting in lieu thereof "December 31, 1999". (d) SPECIAL PAY FOR ENLISTED MEMBERS ASSIGNED TO CERTAIN HIGH PRIORITY UNITS.— Section 308d(c) of title 37, United States Code, is amended by striking out "September 30, 1999" and inserting in lieu thereof "December 31, 1999". (e) SELECTED RESERVE AFFILIATION BONUS.— Section 308e(e) of title 37, United States Code, is amended by striking out "September 30, 1999" and inserting in lieu thereof "December 31, 1999". (f) READY RESERVE ENLISTMENT AND RENLISTMENT BONUS.— Section 308h(g) of title 37, United States Code, is amended by striking out "September 30, 1999" and inserting in lieu thereof ' t)ecember31, 1999".
