The Armed Forces are authorized strengths for active duty personnel as of September 30, 2001, as follows: (1) The Army, 480,000. (2) The Navy, 372,642. (3) The Marine Corps, 172,600. (4) The Air Force, 357,000. SEC. 402. REVISION IN PERMANENT END STRENGTH MINIMUM LEVELS. (a) REVISED END STRENGTH FLOORS.— Section 691(b) of title 10, United States Code, is amended— (1) in paragraph (2), by striking "371,781" and inserting "3 72,000 "; (2) in paragraph (3), by striking "172,148" and inserting "172,600 "; and (3) in paragraph (4), by striking "360,877" and inserting "357,000". (b) EFFECTIVE DATE. —The amendments made by subsection (a) shall take effect on October 1, 2000. SEC. 403. ADJUSTMENT TO END STRENGTH FLEXIBILITY AUTHORITY. Section 691(e) of title 10, United States Code, is amended by inserting "or greater than" after "identical to".
