(b) C ONF O RMI N G AM E N D MEN T . —P aragraph ( 3 ) of such section is amended by stri k ing ‘‘a medical or dental officer’’ and inserting ‘‘officers covered by paragraph ( 2 )’’. SEC.513 . MAND A TORY SE P ARAT I ONO F RESER V E OFFICERS IN T H E G RADE OF L IE U TENANT GENERAL OR VICE ADMIRAL AFTER COMPLETION OF 3 8 YEARS OF COMMISSIONED SERVICE. (a) M A NDATOR Y SE P ARATION.—Section 14508 of title 10 ,U nited States Code, is amended— (1) by redesignating subsections (c), (d), and (e) as sub - sections (e), (f), and (g), respectively

and (2) by inserting after subsection (b) the follo w ing new sub- section (c)

‘‘(c) TH IRTY- E IGHT Y EAR S OF SER V I C E FOR L IE U TENANT G EN- ERA L S AND VICE ADMIRALS.—Unless retired, transferred to the R etired Reserve, or discharged at an earlier date, each reserve officer of the Army, Air Force, or Marine Corps in the grade of lieutenant general and each reserve officer of the Navy in the grade of vice admiral shall be separated in accordance with section 14514 of this title on the later of the following: ‘‘(1) 30 days after completion of 38 years of commissioned service. ‘‘(2) The fifth anniversary of the date of the officer’s appoint- ment in the grade of lieutenant general or vice admiral.’’. (b) CLERICAL AMENDMENTS.—Such section is further amended— (1) in subsection (a), by inserting ‘‘FOR B RIGADIER GEN- ERALS AND REAR ADMIRALS (LO W ER H ALF)’’ after ‘‘GRADE’’ in the subsection heading; and (2) in subsection (b), by inserting ‘‘FOR MA J OR GENERALS AND REAR ADMIRALS’’ after ‘‘GRADE’’ in the subsection heading. SEC. 51 4 .MA X IMUM PERIOD OF TEMPORARY FEDERAL RECOGNITION OF PERSON AS ARMY NATIONAL GUARD OFFICER OR AIR NATIONAL GUARD OFFICER. Section 308(a) of title 32, United States Code, is amended in the last sentence by striking ‘‘si x months’’ and inserting ‘‘one year’’. SEC. 515. ADVANCE NOTICE TO MEM B ERS OF RESERVE COMPONENTS OF DEPLOYMENT IN SUPPORT OF CONTINGENCY OPER - ATIONS. (a) ADVANCE NOTICE RE Q UIRED.—The Secretary of a military department shall ensure that a member of a reserve component under the j urisdiction of that Secretary who will be called or ordered to active duty for a period of more than 30 days in support of 10USC 1 23 01 note.
