AG E LIM I TFOR RETE N TION OF CERTAIN RESER V E OFFICERS ON ACTIVE - STAT U SLISTASE X CE P TION TO REMOVAL FOR Y EARS OF COMMISSIONE D SERVICE. S ection 14 5 0 8 of title 10 ,U nited States C ode, is amended— (1) by redesignating subsection (g) as subsection (h)

and (2) by inserting after subsection (f) the following new sub- section (g): ‘ ‘(g) R ETENTION OF L IE U TENANT G ENE R ALS.— A reser v e officer of the Army or Air F orce in the grade of lieutenant general who would otherwise be removed from an active status under subsection (c) may, in the discretion of the Secretary of the Army or the Secretary of the Air Force, as the case may be, be retained in an active status, but not later than the date on which the officer becomes 6 6 years of age. ’ ’. SEC. 51 6 . AUT H ORITY TO RETAIN RESERVE CHAPLAINS AND OFFICERS IN MEDICAL AND RELATED SPECIALTIES UNTIL AGE 6 8 . (a) RESER V EC H A P LAINS AN DM EDICAL O FFICERS.—Section 1470 3 (b) of title 10, United States Code, is amended by striking ‘‘67 years’’ and inserting ‘‘68 years’’. (b) N ATIONAL GUARD CHAPLAINS AND MEDICAL OFFICERS.— Section 324 of title 32, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following new subsection: ‘‘(c) Notwithstanding subsection (a)(1), an officer of the National Guard serving as a chaplain, medical officer, dental officer, nurse, veterinarian, Medical Service Corps officer, or biomedical sciences officer may be retained, with the officer’s consent, until the date on which the officer becomes 68 years of age.’’. SEC. 51 7 . MODIFICATION OF AUTHORITIES ON DUAL DUTY STATUS OF NATIONAL GUARD OFFICERS. (a) D UAL DUT Y STATUS AUTHORI Z ED FOR ANY OFFICER ON ACTIVE DUTY.—Subsection (a)(2) of section 325 of title 32, United States Code, is amended by striking ‘‘in command of a National Guard unit’’. (b) ADVANCE AUTHORIZATION AND CONSENT TO DUAL DUTY STATUS.—Such section is further amended— (1) by redesignating subsection (b) as subsection (c); and (2) by inserting after subsection (a) the following new sub- section (b): ‘‘(b) ADVANCE AUTHORIZATION AND CONSENT.—The P resident and the Governor of a State or Territory, or of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or the commanding general of the District of Columbia National Guard, as applicable, may give the authori z ation or consent re q uired by subsection (a)(2) with respect to an officer in advance for the purpose of establishing the succession of com- mand of a unit.’’.
