GONTINGENT EXPENSES, WEATHER BUREAU. Contingent Expenses: For stationery, blank books, furniture, and °°¤’°*¤g*>¤* ·¤P°¤¤¤¤· repairs tosame; freight, express charges; subsistence, care, and purchase of horses; repairs to harness; advertising, dry goods, twine, mats, oils, paints, glass, lumber, hardware, ice, washing towels, and other miscellaneous supplies and expenses not otherwise provided for and necessary for the practical and efficient work of the Weather Bureau in the District of Columbia, ten thousand dollars. GENERAL EXPENSES, WEATHER BUREAU. G°¤¤¤l•¤P°¤¤¤•· General expenses of the Weather Bureau, under the direction of the Secretary of Agriculture, for the benefit of agricultiue, commerce, navigation, and other interests, as provided by law, namely: · Salaries of three inspectors, whose compensation in the aggregate mm *°"°°"‘ shall not exceed five thousand four hundred dollars; thirty local forecast officials, observers, operators, repair men, messengers, and other necessary employees, outside of the city of Washington, three hundred and forty-seven thousand one hundred and ninety- five dollars. All other expenses, itemized asfollows: Maps, bulletins, and station- M°’°·"““°"“°·°“‘· ery for stations, and the maintenance of a printing office in the District of Columbia for printing of the necessary circulars, weather maps, bulletins, and monthly weather reviews (including the hire of printers, lithographers, and other necessary working force); for traveling T¤¤•1>¤¤•**¤¤- expenses; for freight and express charges; for instruments and shelters . therefor· for telegraphing or telephoning reports and messages, the '*'°‘°¤'°P“"!·°°°· rates to be lixed by the Secretary of A riculture by agreement with the companies performing the services; En rents and other incidental R‘°"*'· °*"· expenses of offices maintained as stations of observation; for maintenance and repair of seacoast telegraph lines; for river observations C°°•°*°‘°8"'P*** and reports; for storm and other signals; for cotton region observa· Siem ¤*8¤¤*¤· °°°· tions and reports; for special observations and pay of observers of West India, Mexican, and Central American stations during the hurri- “‘“"‘°"“‘j '°*’°"““ cane season; for supplies for State weather service stations; and for S*'*°"·“'“°“°· investigations on climatology and sanitary science, including assist °“¤·**°· ance and all necessary expenses, three hundred and fifty-six thousand one hundred and twenty-five dollars. Any person who shall knowingly issue or publish any counterfeit wfl’;,’g_;°*;é*;‘g”}°f‘;f weather forecasts or warnings of weather conditions, falsely represent- am, em. ing such forecasts or warnings to have been issued or published by the Weather Bureau, United States Signal Service, or other branch of the Government service, shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and, on conviction thereof, for each odense, be lined in a sum not exceeding five hundred dollars, or imprisoned not to exceed ninety days, .or be both fined and imprisoned. in the discretion of the court. s1*A*r-v0L xxvui-.-47
