Mileage te officers- For mileage to officers and contract sur eons, when authorized b * _§[,§§'j*°S· law, five hundred thousand dollars: Provided, That officers so traveiing shall be paid seven cents per mile and no more; distances to be computed and mileage to- be paid over the shortest usually traveled agieggggiljgg of mile- routes, with deduction as hereinafter provided; and spayment and ' settlement of mileage accounts of officers shall be made according to distances computed over routes established and by mileage tables pre- _ pared by the aymaster—General of the Army under the direction of the Secretary of War; and all payments made by paymasters on account of mileage previous to the passa e of this Act shall be settled in accordance with istance tables officiagy promulgated and in use at qu'?}/S’§SP°"°‘i°¤ ’°· date of payment: Provided further, That officers who so desire may, upon application to the Quartermaster’s Department, be furnished with transportation requests, exclusive of slee ing and parlor car accommodations, for the entire journey under their orders; and the transportation so furnished shall be a charge against the officer’s mile- I age account, to be deducted at the rate of three cents per mile by the ·` paymaster paying the account, the amount so deducted to be turned ` over to an authorized officer of the Quartermaster’s Department for the credit of the appro riation for transportation of the Army and its sup- . u'§gd“‘Q§Q_ ‘;§u}§,‘§,‘§j plies: Andprovidedfur¢ho1·, That when the established route of travel ere- ’ l shall, in whole or in part, be over the line of any railroad on which the troops and supplies of the United States are entitled to be transported
