Be it enacted by the Senate and House 0£j?e§resentata}ves of the United gxéhméstim OL States of Anmaea in Congress assemb hat from and after the R.S..sec.1<»¤4.p.¤>2. approval of this Actthe Army of the Uinited States, including the ‘“"c';?§§1,g°,‘}g;¤,,¤_ existingorganizations, shall consist of fifteen regiments of cava ry, a corps of artillery, thirty regiments of infantry, one Lieutenant- General, six major-generals, nfteen-brigadier-ggnerals, an Ad']}utant- General’s Department, an Inspector-General’s epartment, a udge- Advocate-General’s Department, a te1·’s Department, a Subsistence Department, a Medical Department, a Pay Department, a Corps of Engineers, an Ordnance De artment, a S1gnal Corps, the officers of the Record and Pension Oiiiice, the chaplains the officers and enlisted men of the Army on the retired list; the proflessors, corps of cadets, the army detachments and band at the United States Mi i- tary Academy, Indian scouts as now authorized bg law, and such other officers- and enlisted men as may hereinafter e lprovided for: &;¢g¤1¤iu8 mm 0, Brovided, That when a vacancy shall occur through deat , retirement, omce of smekeeper, or other separation from active service in the office of storekeeper, °*°· now provided for by law in the Qua1‘termaster’s/-·Department and Ordnance Department, respectively, said-ottice shall cease to exist. &§,,1f,§;,,°,,_. Sec. 2[That each regiment of cavalry rshall consist of one colonel, . ml}-m§3§<=·11¤¤. 1>·2¤B. one lieutenant-colonel, three majers, fifteen captains, fifteen first lieu- ‘ , ,, tenants, and fifteen second lieutenants; two veterinarians, one sergeant- 1 major, one quartermastensergeant, one commissary-sergieant, three gililuadron sergeants-major, two color-sergeants with ran , pay, and owances of squadron sergeant-major, one band, and twelve troops mm- organized into three squadrons of four, troops each. Of the officers herein provided, the captains and lieutenants not required for duty with the troops shall be available for detail as regimental and squadron . staff officers and such other details as may be authorized by law or ju§g!{tg*eg¤¤°*°¤ **d· regulations. Squadron adjutants shall receive one thousand eight ’hundred dollars per annum and the allowances of first lieutenants; squadron quarterniasters and commissaries shall receive one thousand , six hundred dollars per annum and the allowances of second lieuten- Bm- ants.
