When the incom e of an estate under guardiansh ip is insufficie nt to maintain the ward and his family or to maintain and educate the ward when a mi nor, or to pay for his care, tr eatment, and sup port, if confined in a hospital for the insane in the Canal Zone , his guardian may sell his real or personal estate, or mortgage the real esta te for that pur pose sub ject to con firm atio n of suc h s ale or m ort- gage by the court . pA pUcation of pr o- SEC. 99 8. APPLICA TION OF PROC EEDS OF SALES .-If the est ate is sold ~ed~ for the purposes mentioned in this subchapter, the guardian must app ly the p roce eds of the sale to such pu rpos es, as far as ne ces sary , and put out the residue, if any, on interest, or invest it in the best manner in his power, until the capital is wanted for the maintenance of the ward and his family, or the education of his children, or for the education of the ward when a minor, in which case the cap ital may be use d for th at purp ose, as far as may be n eces sary , in like manner as if it had been personal estate of the ward .
