793 [CHAPTER 28 .] JOINT RESOLUTION January 31, 1933. Authorizing the granting of permits to the Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies

(S .J. Res .239.1 on the occasion of the inauguration of the President elect in March, 1933, __IS . Res ., No. 50.1 and for other purposes . Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the U nited Inaug uration of the States of America in Congress assembled, That the Director of Use of o[ Prese e r ese rvations, Public Buildings and Public Parks of the National Capital and etc'b . ;sut orashi Washington, such ot her offi cers of t he Distr ict of C olumbia and the United A tates as control any public lands in the District of Columbia, are hereby authorized to grant permits, under such restrictions as they may deem necessary, to the Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies for the use of any reservations or other public spaces in the city of Washing- ton under their control on the occasion of the inauguration of the rroafas. President elect in March, 1933 : Provided, That in their opinion no Condition. serious or permanent injuries will be thereby inflicted upon such reservations or public spaces or statuary thereon ; and the Com mis- sioners of the District of Columbia may designate for such and other d Streets, etc ., to be purposes on the occasion aforesaid such streets, avenues, and side- walks in said city of Washington under their control as they may deem proper and necessary : Provided, however, That all stands or stS uper i sion of platforms that may be erected on the public space, as aforesaid, including such as may be erected in connection with the display of firewo rks, sha ll be un der the said sup ervision of -the said ina ugural committee, and no stand shall be built on the sidewalk, streets, parks, and publ ic gro unds of th e Dis trict of Co lumbi a, not incl uding the area on the south side of Pennsylvania Avenue directly in front of the White House, except such as are approved by the inaugural com mitte e and the b uildi ng in specto r of the D istric t of Colum bia, and no stand s shall b e built on the s idewalks or stre ets on t he south side of Pennsylvania Avenue directly in front of the White House, except such as are approved by the inaugural committee, the build- ing inspect or of th e Distri ct of Co lumbia, a nd the D irector of Publi c Bu ildi ngs and Parks : And provided further, That the reservations t,u~ mval of strut, or public spaces occupied by the stands or other structures shall after the inauguration be promptly restored to their condition before such occupation, and that the inaugural committee shall indemnify the appropriate agency of the Government for any damages of any kind whatsoever upon such reservations or spaces by reason of such use . SEC. 2 . The Commissioners of the District of Columbia are hereby Overhead conductors authorized to permit the committee on illumination, of the inaugural for illumination. com mittee f or said inaugura l ceremo nies, to stretch suitable overhea d con ductors, with su fficient support s whereve r necess ary, for the pur - pose of connecting with the present supply of light for the purpose of effecting the said illumination : Provided, That if it shall be Superv ion of work. necessary to erect wires for illuminating or other purposes over any park or reservation in the District of Columbia the work of erection and removal of said wires shall be under the supervision of the of ficial in charge o f said park or res ervation : Provided further, That Time limit for use . the said conductors shall not be used for conveying electrical cur- rents after March 8, 1933, and shall, with their su ports, be fully and entirely removed from the streets and avenues of pthe said city of W ash ing ton on or bef ore Ma rch 15, 1933 : And provided further, That the stretching and removing of the said wires shall be under safety precautions . the s upervi sion of th e Comm issio ners of the Dist rict of Co lumbia , o r such ot her offi cials as may hav e jurisd iction i n the pr emises, w ho shall see that the provisions of this resolution are enforced, that all needful precautions are taken for the protection of the public, and that the pavement of any street, avenue, or alley disturbed is replaced
