To amend an Act entitled "An Act to improve the navigability and to provide [H.R.8632.] for the flood control of the Tennessee River ; to provide for reforestation and [Public, No . 412.1 the proper use of marginal lands in the Tennessee Valley ; to provide for the agricultural and industrial development of said valley ; to provide for the na- tional defense by the creation of a corporation for the operation of Government prop erties at an d near Muscle Shoals in t he State of A labama, and for other purposes", approved May 18, 1933 . Be it enacte d by the Senate and Hou se o f Representatives o f th e United States o f America in Congress assembled, That s ubdiv ision (i) of section 4 of the Act entitled "An Act to improve the naviga- bility and to provide for the flood control of the Tennessee River ; to provide for reforestation and the proper use of marginal lands in the Te nness ee Val ley ; t o pro vide for t he ag ricul tural and indus trial development of said valley ; to provide for the national defense by the creation of a corporation for the operation of Government prop- erties at and near Muscle Shoals in the State of Alabama, and for other purposes ", approved May 18, 1933, be, and the same is hereby, am ended by ad ding theret o the follo wing provi so : " Prov ide d, That nothing contained herein or elsewhere in this Act shall be construed to deprive the Corporation of the rights conferred by the Act of February 26, 1931 (46 Stat. 1422, ch . 307, sees . 1 to 5, inclusive), as now compiled in section 258a to 258e, inclusive, of Title 40 of the Un ited S tates Code ." SEC . 2 . That subdivision (j) of said section 4 of said Act be, and the same is hereby, amended to read as follows "(j) Shall have power to construct such dams, and reservoirs, in the Tennessee River and its tributaries, as in conjunction with Wilson Dam, and Norris, Wheeler, and Pickwick Landing Dams, now under construction, will provide a nine-foot channel in the said river and maintain a water supply for the salve, from Knoxville to its mouth, and will best serve to promote navigation on the Tennessee River and its tributaries and control destructive flood waters in the Ten- nessee and Mississippi River drainage basins ; and shall have power to acquire or construct power houses, power structures, transmission li nes, naviga tion projec ts, a nd inc ident al wo rks in the Tennes see River and its tributa ries, and to uni te the various p ower installation s into one or more systems by transmission lines . The directors of the Authority are hereby directed to report to Congress their recom- m en da tio ns n ot . later t han April 1, 193 6, for the unifi ed development of the Tennessee River system ."
