TITLE II-DEPARTMENT OF JU STI CE OFFICE OF THE ATTORNEY GENERAL S a l a r i e s : For the Attorne y General, Soli citor General, Assistant to the Attorney General, and other personal services in the District of Columbia, $1,617,500 . Contingent expenses : For stationery, furniture and repairs, floor coverings not exceeding $1,000, file holders and cases ; miscellaneous expenditures, including telegraphing and telephones, postage, labor, typewriters and adding machines and the exchange thereof and re pairs thereto , stre et-car fares not e xceedin g $300 , news papers , press clippings, and other necessaries ordered by the Attorney General ; official transportation, including the repair, maintenance, and oper- ation of five motor-driven passenger cars (one for the Attorney Gene ral, two for ge neral use of th e Department, two for the Bur eau of Investigation for investigative work), delivery truck, and motor- cycl e, to be used o nly for officia l purposes ; purc hase , in clud ing exchange, of a motor-propelled passenger-carrying automobile for the Attorney General at not to exceed $2,500 ; purchase of law books, books of reference, and periodicals, including the exchange thereof ; tr avel ing and othe r mi scel lane ous and emer genc y ex pens es, auth or- ized and approved by the Attorney General, to be expended at his discretion, $153,000 : Provided, That this appropriation may be reim- bu rsed for exp endi ture s in con nect ion with car s he rein aut hori zed for the Bureau of Investigation from the appropriation for the expenses of said Bureau when approved in writing by the Attorney Gen eral : Pro vided furthe r, That not to exceed $2 per volume s hall be paid for the current and future volumes of the United Sta tes Code, Annotated . Printing and binding : For printing and binding for the Depart- ment of Justice and the courts of the United Sta tes, including not to exceed $6,000 for printing and binding the decision s of the District Court of the Panama Canal Zone, $288,000 . FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION Detection and prosecution of crimes : For the detection and prose- cution of crimes against the United States ; for the protection of the person of the President of the United States ; the acquisition, collection, classification, and preservation of identification and other records and their exchange with the duly authorized officials of the Federal Government, of States, cities, and other institutions ; for in vestig ation o f the offici al act s, rec ords, a nd acc ounts of mar shals, attorneys, clerks of the United States courts and Territorial courts, probation officers, and United States commissioners, for which pur- pose all the official papers, records, and dockets of said officers, with out exception, shall be examin ed by the agen ts of the Feder al Bureau of Investigation at any time ; and also, when requested by the presiding judge, the official acts, records, and accounts of referees Short title. 77 Department of Jus- tice .
