Provided, That not more than a total of $1,550,000 out of the appro- priations contained in this Act under the caption "Coast Guard", exc ept the ap propriatio ns "Salar ies, Comma ndant's O ffice" and "Additional airplanes", shall be expended for aviation . Section 18 of the Treasury-Post Office Appropriation Act, fiscal year 1934, is hereby c ontinued in full force and effect during the fiscal year ending June 30, 1937 ; and for the purpose of making su ch se ction appli cable to su ch la tter fisca l year , the figu res "1 934" shall be read as "1937" . BUREAU OF ENGRAVI NG AND PRI NTING For the work of engraving and printing, exclusive of repay work, during the fiscal year 1937 United States currency, internal-revenue sta mps includ ing opium orders an d special- tax stamp s required und er the Act of December 17, 1914 (U. S. C., title 26, sec. 211), checks, drafts, and miscellaneous work, as follows Salaries and expenses : For the Director, two Assistant Directors, and o ther personal ser vices in the Dist rict of Columbia ., in c lu d in g wages of rotary press plate printers at per diem rates and all other plate printers at piece rates to be fixed by the Secretary of the Treasury, not to exceed the rates usually paid for such work ; for en grav ers' and prin ters ' ma teria ls a nd o ther mate rial s, i nclud ing disti nctive and nondis tinctive paper, e xcept distinctive paper for United States currency, national-bank currency, and Fe de ral Reserve bank currency ; equipment of, repairs to, and maintenance of buildings and grounds and for minor alterations to buildings ; directories, technical books and periodicals, and books of reference, not exceeding $300 ; rent of warehouse in the District of Columbia ; traveling expenses not to exceed $2,000 ; uniforms for guards not to exceed $2,000 ; miscellaneous expenses, including not to exceed $1,500 for articles approved by the Secretary of the Treasury as being necessary for the protection of the person of employees ; for trans- fer to the Bureau of Standards for scientific investigations in con- nection with the work of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, not to exceed $15,000 ; and for the maintenance and driving of two motor-propelled passenger-carrying vehicles ; $6,328,43 0, to be ex pend ed u nder the dire ctio n of the Secr etary of the Trea sury . During the fiscal year 1937 all proceeds derived from work per- formed by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, by direction of the Secretary of the Treasury, not covered and embraced in the appropriation for such Bureau for such fiscal year, instead of being 183 7 Vessel, etc., repairs .
