JU NE 23, 1936 . including maintenance of non-passenger-carrying motor vehicles, $90 ,000 ; For current work of repairs to streets, avenues, roads, and alleys, incl uding th e recond itioning of exis ting gra vel stre ets and roads, and including the purchase, exchange, maintenance, and operation of non- passenge r-carryi ng motor vehicle s used i n this w ork, $76 5,000 : Provided, That the Co mmiss ioners of th e Dist rict of Col umbia, should they deem such action to be to the advantage of the District of C olumbia, are her eby auth orized t o purcha se a mun icipal a sphalt plant at a cost not to exceed $30,000 ; This appropriation shall be available for the construction and repair of pavements of street railways in accordance with the provi- sions of the Merger Act, approved January 14, 1933 (47 Stat., p. 752) . The proportion of the amount thus expended which under the term s of the said Ac t is req uired to be paid by the street-r ailway company shall be collected, upon the neglect or the refusal of such street-railway company to pay, from the said street-railway company in the manner provided by section 5 of "An Act providing a perma- nent fo rm of government for the District of Columbia", approved June 11, 1878, and shall be deposited to the credit of the appropria- tion for the fiscal year in which it is collected ; For replacement of the superstructure and such portions of the substructure as may be necessary, including relocation and recon- st ruction of appro ach road s of the Chain B ridge in accorda nce with pl ans and profiles to be a pproved by the C ommissio ners of the Dis- trict of Columbia, including personal services, engineering and inci- dental expenses, $250,000 ; and the Commissioners are authorized to enter into contract or contracts for the completion of said bridge at a cost not to exceed $350,000 ; To carry out the provisions of existing law which authorize the Commissioners of the District of Columbia to open, extend, straighten, or widen any street, avenue, road, or highway, except Fo urteenth Street extensio n beyond the sou thern bo undary o f Walter Re ed Hospi tal Rese rvation, in acco rdance w ith the plan of the per- manent system of highways for the District of Columbia, including th e procur ement of chains of title , $200,0 00 : Provided, That this app ropriation sha ll be availab le to carry o ut the provisi on of -existi ng law for the opening, extension, widening, or straightening of alleys and minor streets and for the establishment of building lines in the District of Columbia ; In all, not to exceed $2,169,600, to be immediately available ; to be disbursed and accounted for as "Gasoline tax, road, and street improvements and repairs", and for that purpose shall constitute one fund : Provided, That assessments in accordance with existing law shall be made for paving and repaving roadw ays wh ere su ch roadways are paved or repaved with funds derived from the collec- tion of t he tax o n motor- vehicle fuels an d accre tions by repayme nt of assessments . MISCELLA NEOUS ROAD AND S TREET IMPROVEMEN TS AND REPAIRS For assessment and permit work, paving of roadways under the permit system, and construction and repair of sidewalks and curbs around public reservations and municipal and United States build- ings, includin g purchase or condemnation of streets, r oads, and all eys, and of areas less than two hundred and fifty square feet at the inter- section of streets, avenues, or roads in the District of Columbia, to be selected by the Comm issioners, and incl uding maintenance of non-passenger-carrying motor vehicles, $150,000 .
