Field investigations : For investigations of diseases of man and conditions influencing the propagation and spread thereof, including sa nita tion and sew age, and the pol luti on o f na viga ble stre ams and lakes of the United States, including personal service, and including the maintenance, repair, and operation of motor-propelled passenger- carrying vehicles for official use in field work, and not to exceed $2,250 for the purchase and exchange of motor-propelled passenger- carrying vehicles, $240,000 . Interstate quarantine service : For cooperation with State and municipal health authorities in the prevention of the spread of con- tagi ous an d infe ctious diseas es in inters tate t raffic , $36,5 35 . Rural sanitation : For special studies of, and demonstration work in, rural sanitation, including personal services, and including the maintenance, repair, and operation of motor-propelled passenger- carrying vehicles for official use in field work, $25,000 : Provided, That no part of this appropriation shall be available for demonstra- tion work in rural sanitation in any community unless the State, county, or municipality in which the community is located agrees to pay one-half of the expenses of such demonstration work . Biologic products : To regulate the propagation and sale of viruses, serums, toxins, and analogous products, including arsphenamine, and for the prep arat ion of c urat ive and diag nost ic b iolo gic prod ucts , including personal services of reserve commissioned officers and other personnel, $45,000 . Division of Venereal Diseases : For the maintenance and expenses of the Division of Venereal Diseases, established by sections 3 and 4, chapter XV, of the Act approved July 9, 1918 (U . S . C ., title 42, sees . 24, 25), including personal and other services in the field and in the District of Columbia, $80,000, of which amount not to exceed $19,420 may be expended for personal services in the District of Columbia . Division of Mental Hygiene : For carrying out the provisions of section 4 of the Act of June 14, 1930 (U. S. C., Supp. VII, title 21, sees . 196 and 225) ; for maintenance and operation of the Narcotic Farm, Lexington, Kentucky, in accordance with the provisions of the Act of January 19, 1929 (U. S. C., Supp. VII, title 21, sees. 221- 237), inc ludi ng p erso nal serv ices in the Dist rict of Colu mbia and elsewhere ; traveling expenses ; necessary supplies and equipment ; subsistence and care of inmates ; expenses incurred in pursuing and identifying escaped inmates and of interment or transporting remains of deceased inmates ; purchase and exchange of farm prod- ucts and livestock ; law books, books of reference, newspapers and periodicals ; furnishing and laundering of uniforms and other dis- tinctive wearing apparel necessary for employees in the performance of their official duties ; tobacco for inmates ; purchase and exchange, not to exceed $800, and maintenance, operation, and repair of motor- propelled passenger-carrying vehicles ; $650,000 . x ~a Educational exhibits : For the preparation of public-health exhibits designed to demonstrate the cause, prevalence, methods of spread, and measures for preventing diseases dangerous to the public health, including personal services and the cost of acquiring, trans- porting, and displaying exhibit material, $1,000 . Salaries : For the Director of the Mint and other personal serv- ices in the District of Columbia, $37,200 .
