MAY 17, 1935. for any animals shall not exceed one-half of any such appraisements Provided furthrer, That the sum of $5,000 of the unexpended balance of the appropriation of $3,500,000, contained in the Second Defi- ciency Appropriation Act, fiscal year 1924, approved December 5, 1924, for the eradication of the foot-and-mouth disease and other contagious or infectious di seases of animals, is hereb y made available during the fiscal year 1936 to enable the Secretary of Agriculture to control and eradicate the European fowl pest and similar diseases in poultry. Total, Bureau of Animal Industry, $11,313,419, of which amount not to exceed $789,029 may be expended for departmental personal services in the District of Columbia, and not to exceed $55,325 shall be available for the purchase of motor-propelled and horse-drawn passenger-carrying vehicles necessary in the conduct of field work outside the District of Columbia . B UREAU OF DAIRY I NDUSTRY SALA RIE S AND E XPE NSES For carrying out the provisions of the Act approved May 29, 1924 {U . S . C ., title 7, sees . 401-404), establishing a Bureau of Dairying, for salaries in the city of Washington and elsewhere, and for all other necessary expenses, as follows : General administrative expenses : For necessary expenses for gen- eral administrative purposes, including the salary of the chief of bureau and other personal services in the District of Columbia, $66,075 . Dairy investigations : For conducting investigations, experiments and demonstrations in dairy industry, cooperative investigations of the dairy industry i n the various States, and inspection of renovated- butter factories, in cluding repairs to buildin gs, not to exceed $5,000 for the construction of buildings, $570,104 . Total, Bureau of Dairy Industry, $636,179, of which amount not to exceed $306,720 may be expended for personal services in the Distric t of Col umbia . BUREAU OF PLANT INDUSTRY SALARI ES AND EXPEN SES For all necessary expenses in the investigation of fruits, fruit trees, grai n, c otton , tob acco , veg etab les, grass es, forag e, d rug, medic inal , poisonous, fiber, an d other plants and plant i ndustries in cooperation with other branches of the department, the State experiment sta- tions, and practical farmers, and for the erection of necessary farm buildings : Provided, That the cost of any building erected shall not exce ed $1,500 ; for f ield and station e xpenses, includin g fences , drains and other farm improvements ; for repairs in the District of Columbia and elsewhere ; for rent outside the District of Columbia ; and for the employment of all investiga tors, local and special ag ents, agricultural explorers, experts, clerks, illustrators, assistants, and all labor and other necessary expenses in the city of Washington and elsewhere required for the investigations, experiments, and demon- strations herein authorized, as follows General administrative expenses : For necessary expenses for gen- era l ad minis trat ive p urpos es, inclu ding the salar y of chie f of bure au and other personal services in the District of Columbia, $189,242 .
