Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That whenever restricted Indian lands in the State of Oklahoma are subject to gross production tax on minerals, including oil and gas, the Secretary of the Inter ior, i n his discre tion, may ca use suc h tax or tax es due the State of Oklahoma to be paid in the manner provided for by the statutes of the State of Oklahoma . Approved, August 25, 1937 . [CHAPTER 773] AN ACT To authorize a modification of the project for the control of floods in Lowell Creek, Al aska . Be it enacted b y the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the proje ct for the control of floods in Lowell Creek, Alaska, is hereby modified in accordance with the recommendation in House Document Num- bere d 154, Seven ty-fif th Con gress, first sessio n, and subje ct to the conditions set forth therein, the work to be prosecuted under the direction of the Secretary of War and supervision of the Chief of Engineers . Approved, August 25, 1937 . [CHAPTER 774] AN ACT To regulate proceedings in adoption in the District of Columbia . Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That jurisdiction is h ereby confer red up on the Distr ict Cou rt of the Un ited S tates for the Distri ct of Columb ia to hear a nd dete rmine petiti ons an d decr ees of adoption of any adult or child (hereinafter called adoptee) with authority to make such rules, not inconsistent with this Act, as shall bring fully before the court for consideration the interests of the adop tee, t he nat ural p arents, the petitio ner, a nd any other prope rly interested party . No petition shall be considered by the court unless petitioner's spouse joins in the petition or consents to the adoption . Jurisdi ction is con ferred if ei ther of the f ollowi ng cir cumsta nces exist Z) If petitioner is a legal resident of the District of Columbia; (2) I f peti tioner has a ctuall y resi ded in the Di strict of Co lumbia for at least one year . The petition shall state, so far as known, the name, age, race, occu- pation, and address of the natural parents, when known, and of the peti tioner, whet her th e peti tioner is mar ried o r sing le, th e age and sex of the adoptee, the property owned by the adoptee, and such other facts as the court may require . The court shall thereupon, if the adoptee is under twenty-one years of age, issue a rule with copy of the petition attached, which shall be serve d in s uch ma nner a s the court shall t herein direc t, dir ected to all parties to the petition who do not appear and consent to the adoption, and to the Board of Public Welfare to verify the allega- tions of the petition, to make a thorough investigation for the purpose
