Code § 4-801, 4-802 . ized police training classes and pistol matches, including tuition, entrance fees, travel and subsistence, and other necessary expenses, including expenses of harbor patrol, and the maintenance of a suit- able place for the reception and detention of girls and women over seventeen years of age, arrested by the police on charge of offense against any laws in force in the District of Columbia, or held as witnesses or held pending final investigation or examination, or other- wise, $1,000 for the purchase of samples and for other expenses of investigations of alcoholic beverage licenses, and $2,500 for expenses of police training school, including traveling and other necessary expenses of visiting lecturers or experts in criminology, $100,730, of which amount $15,000 shall be exclusively available for expenditure by the Major and Superintendent of Police for prevention and detec- tion of crime, under his certificate, approved by the Commissioners, and every such certificate shall be deemed a sufficient voucher for the sum therein expressed to have been expended. For purchase, exchange, and maintenance of passenger-carrying and other motor vehicles and the replacement of those worn out in the service and condemned, $115,892, of which $11,963 shall be available immediately for the payment of 1942 obligations. Uniforms: For furnishing uniforms and other official equipment prescribed by department regulations as necessary and requisite in the performance of duty to officers and members of the Metropolitan Police, including cleaning, alteration, and repair of articles trans- ferred from one individual to another, or damaged in the performance of duty, $86,500. For furnishing and equipping a gymnasium in the space set aside in the plans of the East Administration Building for this purpose, $5,000: Provided, That such gymnasium shall be exclusively for the officers and members of the Metropolitan Police, and no part of this sum may be expended until such space is definitely assigned and made available for such purpose. POLICEMEN AND FIREMEN'S RELIEF To pay the policemen and firemen's relief and other allowances as authorized by law, $1,355,000. FIRE DEPARTMENT SALARIES For the pay of officers and members of the fire department, in accordance with the Act entitled "An Act to fix the salaries of officers and members of the Metropolitan Police force, the United States Park Police force, and the Fire Department of the District of Columbia" (43 Stat. 175), as amended by the Act of July 1, 1930 (46 Stat. 839-841), $2,267,060. For personal services, $5,895. MISCELLANEOUS For repairs and improvements to buildings and grounds, $18,500. Uniforms: For furnishing uniforms and other official equipment prescribed by department regulations as necessary and requisite in the performance of duty to officers and members of the fire depart- ment, including cleaning, alteration, and repair of articles trans- ferred from one individual to another, or damaged in the perform- ance of duty, $25,375. 438 [56 STAT.
