C . 227); purchase, when authorized by the Attorney General, of ten motor-propelled passenger-carrying vans at not to exceed $2,000 each; and maintenance, alteration, repair, and operation of motor-propelled passenger-carrying vehicles used in connection with the transaction of the official business of the United Prasptat.ion a States marshals; $3,820,000: Provided, That United States marshals lowance. and their deputies may be allowed, in lieu of actual expenses of trans- portation, not to exceed 4 cents per mile for the use of privately owned automobiles for transportation when traveling on official business within the limits of their official station. Pay and expenses of bailiffs: For pay of bailiffs, not exceeding three bailiffs in each court, except in the southern district of New York and the northern district of Illinois; and meals and lodging for bailiffs pr1,,. PENAL AND CORRECIONAL INSTrIMTLUONS Salaries and expenses: For every expenditure authorized by law or by orders and regulations made in pursuance of law, not otherwise provided for, requisite for and incident to the support of prisoners, and the maintenance and operation of Federal penal and correctional institutions; expenses of interment or transporting remains of deceased inmates to their relatives or friends in the United States Vehicles purchase of not to exceed fourteen passenger-carrying automobiles! purchase of one bus at not to exceed $2,000; maintenance and repair of passenger-carrying automobiles; expenses of attendance at metings concerned with the work of the Prison Service when authoried in 486 [56 STAT.
