Mineral mining investigations: For scientific and technologic Minera mi" g in- investigations concerning the mining, preparation, treatment, and, utilization of ores and mineral substances, other than fuels, with a view to improving health conditions and increasing safety, efficiency, and economy in the mining, quarrying, metallurgical, and other mineral industries; including all equipment, supplies, expenses of travel, pur- chase, not to exceed $12,000, operation, maintenance, and repair of motor-propelled passenger-carrying vehicles, and not to exceed $35,000 for personal services in the District of Columbia, $435,000: Provided, That no part of this appropriation may be expended for an investigation in behalf of any private party. Oil and gas investigations: For inquiries and investigations and Oil and gas nvesti- dissemination of information concerning the mining, preparation, gtions. treatment, and utilization of petroleum and natural gas, and for every other expense incident thereto, including supplies, equipment, news- papers, expenses of travel, purchase, not to exceed $6,500, maintenance, operation, and repair of motor-propelled passenger-carrying vehicles, purchase of laboratory gloves, goggles, rubber boots, and aprons, $657,640, of which not to exceed $50,000 may be expended for per- sonal services in the District of Columbia.
