A*tt, p . 32. amount to be paid from the appropriation for salaries of officers and employees of the Senate; and the Legislative Branch and Judiciary Appropriation Act for the fiscal year 1945 is amended accordingly. Clerical assistance to Senators: For an additional amount for clerical assistance to Senators (including chairmen of standing com- mittees) from January 1 to June 30, 1945, to provide $5,040 per annum for each Senator from each State having a population of four million or more inhabitants, $45,360; and $4,020 per annum for each Senator from each State having a population of less than four mil- lion, $156,780; in all, fiscal year 1945, $202,140. Inquiries and investigations: For an additional amount for expenses of inquiries and investigations ordered by the Senate, including compensation to stenographers of committees, at such rate as may be fixed by the Committee to Audit and Control the Con- tingent Expenses of the Senate, but not exceeding 25 cents per hun- dred words, fiscal year 1945, $200,000: Provided, That no part of this appropriation shall be expended for per diem and subsistence expenses except in accordance with the provisions of the Subsistence Expense Act of 1926, approved June 3, 1926, as amended. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES For payment to the widow of Hampton P. Fulmer, late a Repre- sentative from the State of South Carolina, $10,000 to be disbursed by the Sergeant at Arms of the House. CONTINGENT EXPENSES OF THE HOUSE Miscellaneous items: For an additional amount for miscellaneous items, fiscal year 1944, $1,000. Telegraph and telephone: For an additional amount for telegraph and telephone service, exclusive of personal services, fiscal year 1944, $5,000. COMMrITrEE ON FEDERAL EXPENDITUBE For an amount, which is hereby authorized, to enable the Joint Committee on Reduction of Nonessential Federal Expenditures to carry out the duties imposed upon it by section 601 of the Revenue Act of 1941 (55 Stat. 726), to remain available during the existence of the committee, $10,000, one-half to be disbursed by the Secretary of the Senate and the other half by the Clerk of the House on vouchers approved by the chairman of the committee. THE JUDICIARY SUPREME COURT OF THE UNITED STATES Preparation of Rules for Civil Procedure: For an additional amount for preparation of Rules for Civil Procedure, Supreme Court, $19,700, fiscal year 1945, which amount together with the appropria- tion for this purpose in the First Deficiency Appropriation Act, 1944, shall be available until June 30,1946. MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS OF EXPENSE Fees of commissioners: For an additional amount for fees of com- missioners, fiscal year 1943, including the objects specified under this head in the Judiciary Establishment Appropriation Act, 1943, $5,500.
