January 28, 1944 To provide fer the presentation of silver medals to certain members of the Peary [S. 1841 Polar Expedition of 1908-1909. [Private Law 166] Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Navy be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to cause to be made, at a United States mint, silver medals of an appropriate design to be presented, in the name of Congress, to Matthew A. HIenson, Captain Robert A. Bartlett, Ross G. Marvin, Doctor John W. Goodsell, George Borup, and Donald B. MacMillan, in recognition of their efforts and services, as members of the Peary Polar Expedition of 1908-1909, in the field of science and for the cause of polar exploration, by aiding in the discovery of the North Pole by Admiral Peary. SEC. 2. If any of such persons has died, the Secretary of the Navy is authorized to make the award posthumously by presenting such a medal to the widow or other member of the family of such deceased person. SEC. 3. There is hereby authorized to be appropriated the sum of $750, or so much thereof as may be necessary, for carrying out the provisions of this Act.
