59 STAT.] 79TH CONG., 1ST SESS. - CHS. 11, 15,16-Feb. 28 , 1945 Mar. 1, 1945 [CHAPTER 11] AN ACT 9 February 28, 1945 To amend section 1442, Revised Statutes, relating to furlough of officers by the [s. 219l Secretary of the Navy. [Public Law 11] Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That section 1442, Revised Statutes (34 U. S . C . 228), is hereby amended by striking out the period at the end of the sentence and inserting in lieu thereof "and Marine Corps, and any officer of the Coast Guard while the Coast Guard is operating as part of the Navy. This section shall not apply to reserve officers of such organizations.", so that said section when amended shall read as follows: "The Secretary of the Navy shall have authority to place on furlough any officer on the active list of the Navy and the Marine Corps, and any officer of the Coast Guard while the Coast Guard is operating as part of the Navy. This section shall not apply to reserve officers of such organizations." Approved February 28, 1945. [CHAPTER 15] AN ACT To amend the Agricultural Adjustment Act of 1938, as amended, and sections 7 to 17 of the Soil Conservation and Domestic Allotment Act, as amended, to encourage the growing of war crops by protecting the allotments of producers of cotton, wheat, and peanuts. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That in establishing acreage allotments under subtitle B of title III of the Agricultural Adjustment Act of 1938, as amended, or under the Soil Conservation and Domestic Allotment Act, as amended, the Secretary of Agricul- ture, under regulations prescribed by him, may provide that for any crop year (beginning with the crop year 1945) during the present emergency any farm, with respect to which a cotton, wheat, or peanut allotment was established for the 1942 crop, shall be regarded as a farm on which cotton, wheat, or peanuts, as the case may be, were planted and grown, if the Secretary determines that, with respect to cotton or wheat, because of the production of war crops designated by him on such farm, or, with respect to cotton, wheat, or peanuts, because the owner or operator was serving in the armed forces of the United States, the cotton, wheat, or peanut production history of the farm for such year is not representative of the normal history of the farm. The Secretary may also provide with respect to any such farm that the past acreage of peanuts shall be adjusted upward to the extent that the acreage used for growing peanuts on such farm in such year is below the normal history of the farm. [Public Law 13] Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Navy is hereby authorized to establish or develop the following naval shore activities by the construction of such temporary or perma- nent public works as he may consider necessary, including buildings, facilities, accessories, and services, with which shall be included the authority to acquire the necessary land, and to continue or complete Navy, public works.
