[CHAPTER 721] AN ACT To authorize the transfer of horses and equipment owned by the United States Army to the New Mexico Military Institute, a State institution, and for other purposes. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That, notwithstand- ing any other provision of law, the Secretary of the Army is hereby authorized, upon the request of the institution, to transfer without reimbursement, to the New Mexico Military Institute, Roswell, New Mexico, a tax-supported State institution, to Cornell University, Ithaca, New York, to Norwich University, Norwich, Vermont, and to Virginia Military Institute, Lexington, Virginia, all horses, except those used in the Remount breeding program, together with their rec- ords and equipment, property of the United States Army, located at and utilized by each of the said institutions for military training pur- poses: Provided, That the receiving institution in each case agrees to

  • arrange for the proper pension and old-age care of the donated-horses.

Approved June 29, 1948. [CHAPTER 722] AN ACT To extend for two years the authority to provide for the maintenance of a domes. tic tin-smelting industry. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That section 2 of the joint resolution entitled "Joint resolution to strengthen the com- mon defense and to meet industrial needs for tin by providing for the maintenance of a domestic tin-smelting industry", approved June 28, 1947, is amended by striking out "June 30, 1949," and inserting in lieu thereof "June 30, 1951,". Approved June 29, 1948. [CHAPTER 723] AN ACT To amend the Reconstruction Finance Corporation Act, as amended. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,That section 4 (c) of the Reconstruction Finance Corporation Act, as amended, is hereby amended by striking out "$25,000,000" and inserting in lieu thereof "$40,000,000".
