62 STAT.] 80TH CONG., 2 D SESS.-CHS. 319-322 -MAY 19, 1948 [CHAPTER 319] AN ACT To amend the Act entitled "An Act for the relief of Johannes or John, Julia, Michael, William, and Anna Kostiuk". Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That Private Law 167, Seventy-sixth Congress (ch. 530, first session), approved August , 1939, is hereby amended to read as follows: "That in the administration of the immigration and naturalization laws the Attorney General is hereby authorized and directed to cancel the warrant of arrest and the order of deportation heretofore issued against Johannes or John, Julia, Michael, William, and Anna Kostiuk. Hereafter, for the purposes of the immigration and naturalization laws, such aliens shall be deemed to have been admitted for all pur- poses to the United States for permanent residence on April 15, 1925." Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Attorney General is hereby authorized and directed to cancel the outstanding order and warrant of deportation issued pursuant to sections 19 and 20 of the Immigration Act of February 5, 1917 (39 Stat. 889, 890; U. S . C ., title 8, secs. 155 and 156), in the case of Frank Durante and Maria Durante, any provision of existing law to the contrary notwithstand- ing. From and after the date of the approval of this Act, Frank Durante and Maria Durante shall not again be subject to deportation by reason of the same fact upon which the outstanding proceedings rest. Approved May 19, 1948. [CHAPTER 321] AN ACT For the relief of Cristeta La-Madrid Angeles. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That in the adminis- tration of the immigration and naturalization laws the Attorney Gen- eral be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to record the lawful admission for permanent residence of Cristeta La-Madrid Angeles as of September 19, 1946, the date she was admitted temporarily to the United States. Upon the enactment of this Act the Secretary of State shall instruct the proper quota-control officer to deduct one number from the quota for the Philippine Islands for the fiscal year then current.
