of the Treasury is authorized and directed to pay, out of any money in the Treasury not otherwise appropriated, to Mrs. Katherine L. Sewell the sum of $5,000. The payment of such sum shall be in full settlement of all claims of the said Mrs. Katherine L. Sewoll against the United States on account of personal injuries sustained by her when the automobile in which she was riding was struck by a Government vehicle on Okinawa Island, on April 3, 1949: Provided, That no part of the amount appropriated in this Act in excess of 10 per centum thereof shall be paid or delivered to or received by any agent or attorney on account of services rendered in connection with this claim, and the same shall be unlawful, any contract to the contrary notwithstanding. Any person violating the provisions of this Act shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be fined in any sum not exceeding $1,000. Approved June 18, 1954.

CHAPTER 333

JOINT RESOLUTION Granting the status of permanent residence to certain aliens.

Resolved by the Semite and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That, in the case of each alien hereinafter named, in whose case deportation has been suspended for six months pursuant to section 19(c) of the Immigration Act of 1917, as amended (54 Stat. 671; 56 Stat. 1044; 62 Stat. 1206), or in whose case the Attorney General has determined that the alien is qualified for adjustment of status under the provisions of section 4 of the Displaced Persons Act of 1948, as amended (62 Stat. 1011; 64 Stat. 219), the Attorney General is authorized and directed to cancel deportation proceedings and to record the lawful admission for permanent residence of each such alien in accordance with the provisions of section 244 (d) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (66 Stat. 216-217), upon the payment to the Commissioner of Immigration and Naturalization of a fee of $18, which fee shall be deposited in the Treasury of the United States to the account of miscellaneous receipts: A-6028736, Benezis, loannis Peter.
