CHAPTER 848

AN ACT YQJ. ^.jjg relief of Mrs. G e r t r u d Hildegard Nichols.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Gertrud Nichols. United States of America in Congress assembled, That, notwithstanding the provision of section 212(a)(9) of the Immigration and 66 Stat. 182. Nationahty Act, Mrs. Gertrud Hildegard Nichols may be admitted 8 USC 1182. to the United States for permanent residence if she is found to be otherwise admissible under the provisions of that Act: Provided, That this exemption shall apply only to a ground for exclusion of which the Department of State or the Department of Justice had knowledge prior to the enactment of this xlct. ^^ ^^'^ For the relief of Mrs. Lorenza O'Malley ( d e A m u s a t e g u i), Jose Maria de Amusategui O'Malley, and the legal g u a r d i a n of Ramon de Amusategui O'Malley.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the M r s. L o r e n z a United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary O * M a 11 e y and other." " ' °"" Qf ^jjg Treasury be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to pay, out of any amount in the Treasury not otherwise appropriated, to Mrs. Lorenza O'Malley (de Amusategui) the sum of $20,000, to Jose Maria Gerardo de Amusategui O'Malley the sum of $5,000, and to the legal guardian of Ramon de Amusategui O'Malley the sum of $5,000, all of Fort George G. Meade, Maryland. Such sums shall be in full settlement of all claims against the United States for money and supplies furnished and distributed by Mrs. O'Malley and her former husband, liamon de Amusategui (now deceased), to American prisoners of war in the Philippines during World W a r II: Provided, That no part of the amount appropriated in this Act in excess of 10 per centum thereof shall be paid or delivered to or received by any agent or attorney on account of services rendered in connection with this claim, and the same shall be unlawful, any contract to the contrary notwithstanding. Any person violating the provisions of this Act shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be fined in any sum not exceeding $1,000. Approved August 11, 1955.
