SEC. 402. (a) On and after the effective date of this title persons employed as members of the civilian faculties of the United States Naval Academy and the United States Naval Postgraduate School shall be included within the terms of the Civil Service Retirement Act, and on and after that date the Act of January 16, 1936 (49 Stat. 1092), as amended, shall not apply to such persons. (b) I n lieu of the deposit prescribed by section 4(c) of the Civil Service Retirement Act, an employee who by virtue of subsection (a) is included within the terms of such Act shall deposit, for service rendered prior to the effective date of this title as a member of the civilian faculty of the United States Naval Academy or of the United States Naval Postgraduate School, a sum equal to so much of the repurchase price of his annuity policy carried as required by the Act of January 16, 1936, as amended, as is based on the monthly allotments which were registered with the Navy Allotment Office toward the purchase of that annuity, the deposit to be made within six months after the effective date of this title. Should the deposit not be made within that period no credit shall be allowed under the Civil Service Retirement Act for service rendered as a member of the civilian faculty of the United States Naval Academy or of the United States Naval Postgraduate School subsequent to July 31, 1920, and prior to the effective date of this title. If the deposit is made, such service shall be held and considered to be service during which the employee was subject to the Civil Service Retirement Act. CONTINUATION OF PRIOR RIGHTS

SEC. 403. Except as otherwise provided, the amendments made by this title shall not apply in the case of employees or Members retired or otherwise separated prior to its effective date, and the rights of such persons and their survivors shall continue in the same manner and to the same extent as if this title had not been enacted. I n the case of any Member heretofore separated with title to an annuity under the Act of May 29, 1930, as amended, the annuity of such Member and of 'any survivor of such Member shall be computed, and shall be paid only from and after the effective date of this title, as if the Act of August 11, 1955 (69 Stat. 692), had been in effect on the date of the separation of such Member. SEC. 404. I n the case of any person holding the office of Vice President on the effective date of this title, service performed in such office shall be considered service during which he was subject to the Civil Service Retirement Act for the purpose of section 3(g) thereof.
