672 § 9413. Transportation and subsistence during travel (a) There may be furnished to a person attending a school or camp established under section 9411 of this title, for travel to and from that school or camp— (1) transportation and subsistence; (2) transportation in kind and a subsistence allowance of one cent a mile; or (3) a travel allowance of five cents a mile. (b) The travel allowance for the return t r i p may be paid in advance. (c) For the purposes of this section, distance is computed by the shortest usually traveled route, within such territorial limits as the Secretary of the Air Force may prescribe, from the authorized starting point to the school or camp and return. § 9414. Quartermaster and ordnance property: sales The Secretary of the Air Force may sell to a person attending a school or camp established under section 9411 of this title quartermaster and ordnance property necessary for his proper equipment. Sales under this section shall be for cash. CHAPTER 909.—CIVIL AIR PATROL Sec.

§9441. Status: support by Air Force; employment (a) The Civil Air Patrol is a volunteer civilian auxiliary of the Air Force. (b) To assist the Civil Air Patrol in the fulfillment of its objectives as set forth in section 202 of title 36, the Secretary of the Air Force may, under regulations prescribed by him with the approval of the Secretary of Defense— (1) give, lend, or sell to the Civil Air Patrol without regard to the Federal Property and Administrative Services Act of 1949, as amended (40 U.S.C. 471 et seq.)— (A) major items of equipment, including aircraft, motor vehicles, and communication equipment; and (B) necessary related supplies and training aids; that are excess to the military departments; (2) permit the use of such services and facilities of the Air Force as he considers to be needed by the Civil Air Patrol to carry out its mission; (3) furnish such quantities of fuel and lubricants to the Civil Air Patrol as are needed by it to carry out any mission assigned to it by the Air Force; (4) establish, maintain, and supply liaison offices of the Air Force at the National, State, and Territorial headquarters, and at not more than eight regional headquarters, of the Civil Air Patrol; (5) detail or assign any member of the Air Force or any officer or employee of the Department of the Air Force to any liaison office at the National, State, or Territorial headquarters, and at not more than eight regional headquarters, of the Civil Air Patrol;
