(c) The annual rate of basic salary of any officer or employee whose basic salary, immediately prior to the effective date of this subsection, is at a rate between two scheduled rates, or above the highest scheduled rate, in the Postal Field Service Schedule, the Rural Carrier Schedule, or the Fourth-Class Office Schedule, whichever may be applicable, is hereby increased by an amount equal to the amount 01 the increase made by this part in the next lower rate of the appropriate level in such schedule. As used in this subsection, the term "basic salary" has the same meaning as when used in the Postal Field Service Compensation Act of 1955. SEC. 111. This part may be cited as the "Federal Employees Salary Increase Act of 1960". SALARY INCREASE FOR EMPLOYEES SUBJECT TO CLASSIFICATION ACT OF 1949

SEC. 112. (a) Section 603(b) of the Classification Act of 1949, as amended (72 Stat. 203; 5 U.S.C. 1113(b)), is amended to read as follows: " (b) The compensation schedule for the General Schedule shall be as follows: 'Grade OS-1.. GS-2.. GS-3.QS-4.GS-5.. GS-6-. OS-7-. OS-8.. GS-9.. QS-10. GS-11. GS-12GS-13. G8-14. GS-15GS-16GS-17. GS-18.

compeji*satF2.n?* °^ (^) ^ h e Tates of basic compensation of officers and employees to whom this section applies shall be initially adjusted as follows: (1) If the officer or employee is receiving basic compensation immediately prior to the effective date of this section at one of the scheduled or longevity rates of a grade in the General Schedule of the Classification Act of 1949, as amended, he shall receive a rate of basic compensation at the corresponding scheduled or longevity rate in effect on and after such date, (2) If the officer or employee is receiving basic compensation immediately prior to the effective date of this section at a rate between two scheduled or two longevity rates, or between a scheduled and a longevity rate, of a grade in the General Schedule, he shall receive a rate of basic compensation at the higher of the two corresponding rates in effect on and after such date.
