Public Law 96-306 96th Congress An Act To authorize the President of the United States to present on behalf of Congress a specially struck gold-plated medal to the United States Summer Olympic Team of 1980.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembka. That (a) the Presi- United States Summer dent of the United States is authorized to present a gold-plated medal Olympic Team of of appropriate design, on behalf of the Ck>ngress, to those athletes 1980. selected through the Olympic trial process to represent the United Commemorative States in the summer Olympics of 1980, in recognition of their medal. outstanding athletic achievements and of their determination in the pursuit of excellence. For such purpose, the Secretary of the Treasury IS authorized and directed to cause to be stricken six hundred and fifty gold-plated medals with suitable emblems, devices, and inscriptions to be determined by the Secretary of the Treasury. (b) The medals provided for in this Act are national medals for the purpose of section 3551 of the Revised Statutes (31 U.S.C. 368). (c) Funds to carry out the provisions of this Act, which shall not Appropriation exceed $50,000, shall be available from amounts currently appropri- authorization. ated for the operation of the Bureau of the Mint.
