EARLY MAN In most instances only one urn with or without a protecting kist is found in each barrow, 1 but two were found in one barrow at Trelowarreri, 8 Trevelloe, 3 Bosporthennis 4 and Boscawen Un, 6 three at Clahar Garden 6 and Gunwalloe. 7 Four kist vaens were found in one barrow at Bodinnar ; 8 one complete urn and the remains of three others in the chambered barrow at Tregeseal ; five urns in the round barrow at Bosavern, 9 five or six at Trannack, 10 and no less than seven in a similar monument at Boscreggan. 11 In the barrow at Ballowal in St. Just, 13 which is the most interesting though not the largest in Cornwall, were found, in addition to a grave sunk in the natural ground, nine kist vaens, six of these being within the inner circular wall, but apparently only two of these contained urns. Dr. Borlase 13 records a story of a barrow at Chikarn in St. Just in which were found in 1733 ' about fifty urns,' but unfortunately the barrow was removed and all the urns save one destroyed before he heard of the discovery. A little earthenware cup ij in. high was found with a large urn in a kist vaen, exposed by the washing away of the cliff, at Harlyn Bay. 14 At Trannack u and Boscreggan 18 two urns were found one inside the other, and this also seems to have been the case at Boscawen Un. 17 It is usual to find the urn in the kist vaen, but at Nanstallon, 18 Breock Downs, 19 Denzell Downs, 20 Newquay, 21 Trannack 23 and Pelynt, 23 urns have been found with no kist or protection at all, while at Trelowarren 2 * and Escalls, 25 although in each 1 Gwallon Downs, Borlase, Naen.
