Mr. Barraud says that it is common, and in 1900 especially so at 'light.' He notes that it varies a good deal in colour of markings Operophtera brumata, L. Very common everywhere boreata, Hb. I have taken the larvae in considerable numbers on hollyhocks at Avenue House, St. Albans limitata, Sc. (mensuraria, SchifF.). Brook- lands Farm, Elstree, and Bamville Wood Farm, Harpenden Common (A.
