A HISTORY OF WORCESTERSHIRE holds 4 hides at Longedun [Longdon],* where he has 2 ploughs ; and there are 8 villeins and 2 bordars with 4 ploughs. There are 4 serfs and 4 bondwomen and 8 acres of meadow. It was worth 4 pounds ; now 3 pounds. Le(o)fric the reeve held it at the will of the Bishop {sicut ephcopus voluit). In the same Hundred the same Bishop holds NoRWiCHE [Northwick]^ with one (appur- tenant) member Tidbertun [Tibberton]. There are 25 hides that (pay) geld. Of these 3^ are in demesne, where are 4 ploughs ; and there are a reeve, who has 3 virgates, and i radman who has 3 virgates, and 13 villeins and 18 bordars. Between (them) all they have 18 ploughs. There are 8 serfs and 3 mills, worth {de) 50 shillings, and in (Droit)- wic(h) one saltpan, which renders 100 * mits ' of salt for 100 cartloads {caretedes) of wood. From (the) fishery (are received) 4 shillings ; from the pastures {pasculs) 2 shillings. There are 40 acres of meadow. The wood (land) is I league {lewa) long and I in width. To this manor there belong 90 houses in Wireces- tre [Worcester]. Of these, the Bishop has in demesne 45, which render nothing but labour at the Bishop's court {in curia episcopi). Urse holds 24 houses of these, Osbern Fitz Richard 3 8, Walter Ponther 11, Robert the Despencer* [dispensator) i. The Bishop had the third penny of the borough of Worcester T.R.E., and has it now with the King and the Earl.^ (It was) then (worth) 6 pounds ; now 8 pounds. To the same manor there belong in (Droit)wich 3 houses which render 3 ' mits ' of salt and 2 shillings from the lead work {de fabrica plumbi). It was worth 13 pounds ; now 16 pounds and 10 shillings. In the market place {foro) of Worcester Urse holds of the Bishop 25 houses and ren- ders 100 shillings a year. Of the same manor Urse holds 5 hides at HiNDELEP [Hindlip] and Alcrintun [Alfre- ton],^ and Godfrey holds (them) of him. In (the) demesne are 2 ploughs, and (there are) a priest, and 3 villeins and 4 bordars with 2 ploughs. There are 24 acres of meadow. Of this same manor Ordric holds 3 hides and I virgate {virgam) at Estun [White Ladies Aston] where he has 3 ploughs and (there are) 5 villeins and 4 bordars with 4 ploughs. It was worth 20 shillings ; now 40 shillings. This land was and is (part) of the demesne chief {capitali) manor. Ordric holds I hide at Oddunclei [Od- dingley], where he has i plough, and (there are) i villein and 3 bordars with i plough, and a saltpan worth {de) 4 shillings, and 12 acres of meadow. The wood(land) is 2 furlongs long and the same in width, and is in (the King's) forest. Turchil held (it) and did service for it to the Bishop. Alric the archdeacon holds i hide at HuDiNTUNE [Huddington], where he has 2 ploughs, and there are 4 villeins and 4 bor- dars with 2 ploughs. There is a mill which renders 3 (horse) loads {summas) of grain. The wood(land is), worth {de) 3 shillings and is in (the King's) forest. It is and was worth 30 shillings. Wulfric {Vluricus) held it as a villein {rusticus) doing service. Of the same manor Walter Ponther holds i^ hides at Widintun and Rodeleah [Whit- tington ^ ] where he has i plough, and there are are 7 bordars, with 2 ploughs, and 2 serfs. There are 16 acres of meadow, and wood(land sufficient) only for firing. It was worth 20 shillings ; now 25 shillings. Ailric held it like those above.
