of many decades' growth. In these faces the
answer lay. One saw there an infinite capacity
for sacrifice. One read also that alert watchfulness, that greed for justice. And the entire
country is to some extent like that, because there
are few who haven't suffered personally from
this war with its new and intolerable methods.
