45 But they understood not this saying, and it was hid from them, that they perceived it not: and they feared to ask him concerning that saying.
46 Then there arose a reasoning among them, which of them should be greatest.
47 And Jesus, perceiving the thought of their heart, took a child, and set him by him,
48 And said to them, Whoever shall receive this child in my name receiveth me: and whoever shall receive me receiveth him that sent me: for he that is least among you all, the same shall be great.
49 And John answered and said, Master, we saw one casting out demons in thy name; and we forbad him, because he followeth not with us.
50 And Jesus said to him, Forbid him not: for he that is not against us is for us.
51 And it came to pass, when the time was come that he should be received up, he steadfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem,
52 And sent messengers before his face: and they went, and entered into a village of the Samaritans, to make ready for him.
53 And they did not receive him, because his face was as though he would go to Jerusalem.
54 And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elijah did?
55 But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of.
56 For the Son of man is not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them . And they went to another village.
57 And it came to pass, that, as they were going in the way, a certain man said to him, Lord, I will follow thee wherever thou goest.
58 And Jesus said to him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath no where to lay his head.
59 And he said to another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, permit me first to go and bury my father.
60 Jesus said to him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God.
61 And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go and bid them farewell, who are at my house.
62 And Jesus said to him, No man, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.
CHAP. 10.
1 After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, where he himself would come.
2 Therefore said he to them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.
3 Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves.
4 Carry neither purse, nor sack, nor shoes: and greet no man by the way.
5 And into whatever house ye enter, first say, Peace be to this house.
6 And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon it: if not, it shall turn to you again.
7 And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house.
8 And into whatever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you:
9 And heal the sick that are in it, and say to them, The kingdom of God is come near to you.
10 But into whatever city ye enter, and they receive you not, go out into the streets of the same, and say,
11 Even the very dust of your city, which cleaveth on us, we do wipe off against you: however be ye sure of this, that the kingdom of God is come near to you.
12 But I say to you, that it shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom, than for that city.
13 Woe to thee, Chorazin! woe to thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon, which have been done in you, they had a great while ago repented, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.
14 But it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment, than for you.
15 And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted to heaven, shall be thrust down to hell.
16 He that heareth you heareth me; and he that despiseth you despiseth me; and he that despiseth me despiseth him that sent me.
17 And the seventy returned with joy, saying, Lord, even the demons are subject to us through thy name.
18 And he said to them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.
19 Behold, I give to you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
20 However in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject to you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.
21 In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father,
