Sultan Singh, the Hon'ble Lala— Rai Bahadur, comes of a respectable Agarwal Jain family of Delhi. He was only seven years old when he succeeded to his grandfather's estate, his father having died during his infancy. He was educated at St. Stephen's College, Delhi, and in 1898, he took the manage- ment of his property into his own hands. In 1901, he was appointed a member of the Delhi Municipality and in 1905, was made an Honorary jMagistrate. In 1909, he was elected a Fellow of the Punjab University and a year later was nominated by the Government as a member of the Punjab Legislative Council. He takes great interest in education and is the Secretary of the Hindu Girls' School, started in Delhi
