Mr. T. T. Cheng
(Ch'eng T'ien-tou)
Mr. T. T. Cheng was born at Hsiangshan Kwangtung, in 1891. He went to Honolulu when he was a young boy, and attended Mills Institute, Oahu College, and other institutions of learning, leaving there for America in 1906, attending first the Stanford and then the Chicago University, receiving the degree of Ph. B. from the latter. Mr. Cheng was appointed soon after the Revolution, Commissioner of Public Works in Canton. During his term of office, he proposed the demolition of the ancient city wall, the widening of the streets of Canton, the improvement of the Taisha-tao, dredging of the Whampoa to admit larger steamers, and general conservancy work.
